Using the Identifying and Dating Clocks menu tab will help you learn more about different types of clocks and show you practical methods for researching your clock's most likely age and maker.Under the Identifying the Maker submenu you'll find information on clock trademarks and trade names and how patent numbers can be used to determine the country of origin. If your clock is signed you can search our database of more than 10,000 names of former clockmakers to see if the maker's working dates and country are shown.
Use the Dating Clocks submenu if you are trying to find out the approximate date your clock was made. General facts to know and dating clocks by their style can often help date your clock based on its appearance, construction or materials used. A clocks age can also be determined by its maker's name and style of label or trademark, if any. We also provide links to sites that can help date a clock just by using its serial number. The tables of U.S. patent numbers and British registry numbers can also help pinpoint your clocks age.
