Catalog Description:

Very rare "A. Mungers' Patent Eight Day Brass Clocks Made, Warranted and Sold. Wholesale & Retail By Asa Munger & Co. Auburn, N.Y.", ca 1818-1834. 8 day shelf clock, heavy cast brass movement, weights compounded in the top by double pulleys. Note the very large iron weights. Strikes a brass bell inside top of case, above the movement. Excellent full label, original dial and hands. Mirror looks to be original, no evidence of ever being removed, excellent top glass identical to the glass in the Munger empire shelf clock shown in Palmers, "The Book of American Clocks", page 223. It has been puttied in the door. The flying eagle pendulum was frequently used by Munger. Another of his trademarks was wallpaper covering the entire inside of the case. In later years he made clocks using prison labor. Large 40 inch, mahogany veneer case, very nice with only a couple of nicks. It has mirrors on the sides, 1 is cracked. Half columns with gold capitals and bases, carved claw feet-1 toe lost. Carved pineapple crest. 2 glass door knobs with latches.
